KYIV. Nov 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The German company PolyMiM, a leading global supplier of raw materials for casting using Metal Injection Molding (MIM) technology and industrial 3D printing, has successfully produced a test final product from titanium powder of the Velta group of companies with titanium-containing ore mining assets in Novomyrhorod (Kirovohrad region).
According to a company press release on Wednesday, after tests at PolyMiM, Velta has added Metal Injection Molding to the technologies it will use to produce its own end products in both Ukraine and the United States.
The combination of powder produced using the Velta Ti Process technology with the MIM method can have a significant cost-effective and environmental effect, since spherodization of the powder, the most energy-intensive stage, is eliminated in the process of manufacturing the final part.
In addition, there are three main indicators when developing new methods of producing materials: quality, price and environmental friendliness.
“The tests carried out with Velta titanium powder in combination with injection molding technology give high results in all three specified parameters,” CEO of Velta Andriy Brodsky quoted by the press service.
MIM technology is used for the manufacture of products with a maximum weight of up to 200 grams – parts for weapons, dental implants, watch cases, glasses, etc. Parts for the military industry – weapon components – were among the first to be manufactured using this technology.
The press service recalled that, according to the results of recent studies by the independent European research institute Fraunhofer IFAM Dresden, titanium powder Velta Ti Process meets all the requirements of various additive manufacturing technologies, including MIM.
