KYIV. Nov 7 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The World Health Organization (WHO) has verified 1,301 attacks on the Ukrainian healthcare system, Head of the WHO Country Office in Ukraine Jarno Habicht has said.
“WHO has verified 1,301 attacks on the healthcare system. This is unacceptable. This is a terrible damage caused to institutions at the primary care and hospital level. Moreover, due to these attacks we have also lost a number of our fellow doctors and nurses,” he said in an exclusive interview with the Interfax-Ukraine News Agency.
Habicht also said the need for resources to restore the healthcare system is constantly growing.
“We have data on the first year of the war that shows it will take billions to rebuild,” he said.
At the same time, Habicht emphasized that 96% of healthcare institutions in the territories controlled by Ukraine are “still functioning.”
