KYIV. Nov 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) – As of the beginning of November 2023, Ukrainian farmers harvested almost 29 million tonnes of vegetables, among which the largest number were potatoes – 21.2 million tonnes, as well as 7.1 million tonnes of cabbage, the Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food reported.
According to the report, potatoes were dug from an area of 1.183 million hectares. The leaders in its cultivation were Zhytomyr (more than 2 million tonnes) and Khmelnytsky (1.98 million tonnes) regions.
According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, all other vegetables were collected on an area of 367,600 hectares. At the same time, production amounted to 7.1 million tonnes of crops, namely: tomatoes – 1.4 million tonnes, cabbage – 1.3 million tonnes, onions – 877,000 tonnes, carrots – 810,000 tonnes, beets – 766,000 tonnes, cucumbers – 681,000 tonnes, and other vegetables – 1.3 million tonnes.
The leaders in the collection of vegetables, except potatoes, in the overall count were the farmers of Dnipropetrovsk region, who grew 780,000 tonnes of crops. At the same time, farmers in Mykolaiv region grew the most tomatoes – 275,000 tonnes, cabbage – in Lviv region – 234,000 tonnes, and cucumbers in Kyiv region – 72,800 tonnes.
In addition, melons and watermelons are collected on an area of 29,800 hectares with a gross production of 283,000 tonnes, including watermelons – 214,000 tonnes, and melons – 69,000 tonnes. The leaders in the collection of melons and watermelons were also the farmers of Dnipropetrovsk region: they grew 64,000 tonnes of melons and watermelons.
