Slovakia's truckers association to block one border crossing with Ukraine – UNAS

KYIV. Nov 30 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Slovakia’s truckers association (UNAS) announced that they will block of the Vyšné Nemecké-Uzhgorod border crossing point (BCP) with Ukraine from December 1 from 15:00 “until further notice,” the Union said in a press release on Wednesday.

“We submitted requests to resolve the situation personally to the Ministry of Transport of the Slovak Republic at a meeting with the Minister of Transport on November 29,” the Union said in a statement on its Facebook page.

The main demand of the association is the abolition of the Agreement between the European Union (EU) and Ukraine on the carriage of freight by road in force from July 1, 2022, which, according to them, “has a devastating impact on our Slovak transport market, but also on the markets of other states neighboring Ukraine.”

The association also declared that their interests will be lobbied by Minister of Transport and Construction Jozef Ráž at the meeting of the EU Transport Council on December 4.

“The blockade will in no way restrict humanitarian goods, military supplies, live animals, fuel and chilled (fresh) goods. These goods will cross the border without restrictions,” the association said.

At the same time, commercial cargo will be passed according to a schedule of four trucks per hour.
