Demand for used foreign cars in Ukraine grows slightly in May – Ukrautoprom

KYIV. June 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Primary registrations of used cars imported from abroad in May 2023 increased slightly (by 0.3%) compared to April 2023 – up to almost 15,400 units, which was the largest number of registrations since the beginning of the year per month, Ukrautoprom reported.

“It makes no sense to compare with last year’s May, because last year used cars were massively imported into Ukraine under “zero” customs clearance,” the association said.

The largest share in this segment of the car market still belongs to gasoline cars – 45%, followed by diesel – 36%, electric cars – 12% (in April – 11%), cars with gas – 5% and hybrids – 2% (3% in April).

The average age of used cars that switched to Ukrainian numbers in May is 11 years (same as in April), and the oldest car was a 1992 Honda Prelude.

According to the association, in May the leader of registrations changed – it became Volkswagen Golf (1,333), pushing Renault Megane (1,230) to the second position.

They are followed by Skoda Octavia (840), Volkswagen Passat (694), Ford Focus (403), Nissan Leaf (388), Nissan Qashqai (360), VW Touran (326), AUDI A4 (297), Skoda Fabia (294).

As reported with reference to Ukrautoprom, 5,100 new passenger cars were registered in Ukraine in April.

Ukrautoprom reports that in January-May, 69,900 used cars imported from abroad passed the first registration in Ukraine, which is 3.2 times more than the sales of new cars over the same period.

In 2022, Ukrainians registered 388,500 imported used foreign cars, which is almost a quarter less than a year earlier, but more than 10 times more than the market for new cars.
