European Association E.DSO agrees on concept for development of DTEK's power grids

KYIV. Nov 7 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Board of Directors of the European Distribution System Operators (E.DSO) officially approved the concept for developing power grids, drawn up by DTEK Grids together with European colleagues, as a comprehensive project aimed at creating Ukrainian power grids of the future.

“Members of E.DSO collectively confirm that the fundamentals and principles of the concept for developing electrical networks drawn up by DTEK Grids are based on the practice of the European Union in this area. These principles meet the goals of the Fourth EU Energy Package and contribute to the energy transition of Ukraine,” members of E.DSO said in a joint statement, quoted in a press release from DTEK Grids on Tuesday.

The concept for the development of electric networks involves the gradual updating of the infrastructure of distribution networks in Kyiv, Kyiv, Odesa and Dnipropetrovsk regions using the latest technologies following the best examples of European distribution system operators. The project is designed for 10 years and starts with a three-year pilot in Bucha district, which received significant damage during the Russian occupation.

“DTEK Grids is creating a power grid infrastructure in Ukraine of a qualitatively different level. Modern smart networks will be built taking into account the best European experience, and this is why we are actively cooperating with E.DSO. The updated grid infrastructure will create conditions for developing large green generation capacities, as well as distributed generation, in particular, home solar power plants,” CEO of DTEK Grids Oleksandr Fomenko said.

As a result of the implementation of the concept, the average power outage time per year will decrease from 1,500 to 100 minutes (SAIDI), and technological losses will decrease to 5% from 14%, all customers will receive smart meters, which will contribute to economical consumption and minimizing costs.

The development of the concept involved the expertise of leading energy companies that are members of the association of distribution system operators E.DSO.

DTEK Grids is developing a business in the distribution of electricity and operation of electrical networks in Kyiv city, Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk and Odesa regions. Distribution system operators (DSOs) of DTEK Grids serve 5.4 million households and 150,000 enterprises.
