First batch of subway cars from Warsaw delivered to Kyiv

KYIV. May 11 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The first batch of six subway cars has arrived in Kyiv as part of Warsaw’s assistance to the Ukrainian capital, the press service of the Kyiv mayor has reported.

“Today, I examined the first batch – six subway cars that the Kyiv subway received from Warsaw as charitable assistance. This became possible thanks to a letter signed last year between the capitals of Poland and Ukraine on the donation of 60 decommissioned cars of the Warsaw subway,” Vitali Klitschko said on the Telegram channel on Thursday.

As Klitschko reminded, the delivery of all 60 wagons will take place in stages during this year.

As the mayor of Kyiv said, the received cars belong to the rolling stock of series No. 717, which is also operated in the Kyiv metro. First of all, they will be used as technical donors for overhauls of the existing rolling stock.

“For the Kyiv Metro, this is a significant help, since 80% of the rolling stock is of Soviet production. Similar cars are also operated in the Warsaw Metro. This help from our Polish friends will ensure the uninterrupted operation of the Kyiv Metro, the safety of train traffic and the safe transportation of passengers,” Klitschko said.
