Former Georgian President Saakashvili says stills has high blood pressure, fever, losing weight

TBILISI. May 12 (Interfax) – Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, who has spent 12 months at the Vivamedi civilian clinic in Tbilisi, has said on a social network that he still has high blood pressure, a fever, continues losing weight, and receives daily plasma transfusions.

Saakashvili complained about the Georgian authorities, who were denying EU doctors the opportunity to visit Tbilisi for his health check-up for several months.

According to Saakashvili, Russia’s decision to scrap the visa system for Georgian citizens and to resume flights to and from Georgia “aimed to prepare deployment of its forces to Tbilisi rather than win over Georgians.”

Saakashvili was admitted to a two-room VIP ward of the Vivamedi clinic exactly one year ago. He has lost nearly 60 kilograms of weight, refusing the prescribed treatment and minimizing food consumption. Foreign doctors hired by Saakashvili’s family diagnosed the former president with heavy metal poisoning, which was not confirmed by Georgian doctors.
