KYIV. May 15 (Interfax-Ukraine) – President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has met with Federal President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
“We discussed the current situation and the intensive cooperation between Germany and Ukraine. Germany will continue to support Ukraine politically, militarily and financially for as long as necessary,” he wrote on his Telegram channel.
“Thanks to Germany for the great military, economic and financial support in the face of Russia’s aggressive war!” Zelenskyy also wrote.
The press service of the head of the Ukrainian state reports that during the meeting, Zelenskyy noted the importance of bringing to justice those responsible for war crimes and other atrocities committed by Russia.
In addition, the Ukrainian and German sides separately focused on joint work in promoting the peace formula proposed by Ukraine and organizing the Global Peace Summit with the participation of the maximum number of states, in particular, the countries of the Global South.
During the meeting, the parties paid special attention to the issues of European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine. Zelenskyy noted that “our country is counting on Germany’s effective assistance in supporting the application to join NATO.”
Zelenskyy also expressed hope for the leading role of Germany in the adoption of the next EU sanctions package against the aggressor country, the head of the Ukrainian state emphasized the importance of continuing complex pressure on the Russian Federation.
“During the talks, the participation of Germany in the restoration of Ukraine was discussed. This is facilitated, in particular, by the general patronage established last year by the two presidents over municipal and regional partnerships between Ukraine and Germany,” the report says.
Zelenskyy thanked Germany for receiving Ukrainian citizens who were forced to leave their homes due to Russian aggression.
And also the President of Ukraine highly appreciated “the new, largest defense aid package since the beginning of the full-scale aggression, announced by the government of Germany.”
