By KYIV. May 15 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Federal Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz has confirmed that Germany will support Ukraine for as long as necessary.
“We support Ukraine financially, politically, in the military sphere. We will continue to support you for as long as necessary,” he said at a briefing after meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday.
“More than a million Ukrainian citizens found shelter in Germany. We stand in solidarity with the citizens of Ukraine,” he said, noting that “close relations between our countries will continue for decades.”
Scholz recalled the provision of a new military support package to Ukraine in the amount of EUR 2.7 billion, including Leopard-2 tanks, Marder armored personnel carriers, Iris-T systems and ammunition for them.
Scholz also stated that “we are in favor of holding Russia accountable.”
