KYIV. May 9 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna has said that if President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky participates in the NATO Summit in Vilnius, that must be exclusively in the format of an official meeting.
“If the president participates in the Summit, that must be exclusively official format. As you remember, Hungary blocked the Ukraine-NATO Commission meeting at the level of leaders and at the level of ministers. That is why Ukrainian leaders, the president was invited as an informal guest, which actually does not look possible,” she said on the air of the national telethon on Tuesday.
Stefanishyna emphasized that regardless the future format of the Ukraine-NATO summit meeting [Commission or Council], it must be official.
As reported, on April 21, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, after a visit to Kyiv, announced that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had accepted his invitation to attend the upcoming Alliance summit in July.
Within the framework of the upcoming NATO Summit in Vilnius, the transformation of the format of the Ukraine-NATO Commission into the Ukraine-NATO Council, as well as the creation of the Ukraine-NATO Center is being discussed.
