Joining of Bahrain to sanctions against Russia to confirm joint aspiration to peace, security – Stefanchuk

KYIV. May 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The joining of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the sanctions regime against Russia will confirm the joint desire aspiration to peace and security in the world, Verkhovna Rada Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk has said.

“I want to thank Bahrain just for standing with Ukraine. You certainly know that Iran is an ally of Russia, so we need coordinated measures to restrain this ‘axis of evil’,” he said at a meeting with Bahraini Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani in Kyiv, according to the press service of the Verkhovna Rada.

The first such step, according to Stefanchuk, is the sanctions regime against Russia, the joining of Bahrain to which “will confirm the joint desire to restore peace and security in the world.”

The parties also discussed the possible assistance of Bahrain in the humanitarian, financial, defense spheres, the issue of post-war restoration of Ukraine.

In turn, the Bahraini minister assured that the Kingdom of Bahrain from the first day of the war directs all its efforts to convey to the diplomatic Islamic community the importance of ending this war.

“Bahrain believes in peace, but the path to peace is strewn with obstacles. We also believe in mutual respect, coexistence and dialogue. We believe in the importance of observing the principles of the UN Charter and the international law. And it is from this position that Bahrain has repeatedly supported a number of resolutions of the UN General Assembly, related to the Ukrainian issue,” he said.
