Market of non-banking financial services decreases by 31 participants in April – NBU

KYIV. May 10 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The number of participants in the non-banking financial market in April 2023 decreased by 31, to 1,316, according to the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) website.

The number of banks in April did not change and amounted to 65 ones.

Some 21 participants in the non-banking financial services market were excluded from the registers: ten financial companies, an insurer, a pawnshop, four leasing companies, an insurance broker and a collection company were excluded from the registers voluntarily, while the other three financial companies were forcibly removed from the registers.

In addition, under the requirements of the Law of Ukraine On payment services, some 12 financial companies have been excluded from the State Register of Financial Institutions and included in the Payment Infrastructure Register as payment institutions.

In April, one lessor and one collection company were included in the registers. However, two financial companies were denied inclusion in the register due to the refusal to issue licenses.

The regulator voluntarily revoked all licenses for 11 financial companies, one insurer, one pawnshop, four leasing companies, and forcibly cancelled all licenses for one financial company, two insurers and one pawnshop in April. In addition, part of the licenses of two financial companies and one insurer were cancelled voluntarily.

As of April 30, some 109 non-life insurers operated on the non-banking market (in March there were 110) and 12 life-insurers (the number has not changed), one insurer with a special status, some 170 pawnshops (was 171), some 157 credit unions (the number has not changed), some 86 leasing companies (was 89), some 657 financial companies (previously 682), some 57 insurance brokers (previously 58) and 67 collection companies (the number did not change).

In addition, some 25 banking groups are recognized on the market (the number has not changed) and 22 non-banking financial groups (the number has not changed).

The number of payment systems (33) created by residents and 16 international payment systems created by non-residents has not changed.

In addition, there are financial payment service providers on the market, among them new players: 13 payment institutions and five financial institutions eligible to provide payment services.

The number of banks issuing electronic money (three ones) and one postal operator, which received a new license to provide financial payment services in April, remain unchanged. Other entities operating in the payment market include 37 commercial agents (from 36) and 35 payment service technology operators (the number has not changed).

In April, the NBU received 380 requests from market participants for registration and licensing activities. The number of inquiries regarding financial companies, pawnshops and lessors amounted to 232 ones. The number of inquiries regarding credit institutions (banks and credit unions) was 37, insurers some 78, payment institutions some 33 ones.
