KYIV. May 9 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Since the beginning of 2023, some 36,367 patients have received medical care for stroke under the Program of Medical Guarantees (PMG).
According to the National Health Service of Ukraine (NHSU) press release, since the beginning of 2023, the national service has paid over UAH 497.8 million to clinics for providing medical care for stroke.
When performing endovascular interventions (such as removal of blood clot), NHSU pays UAH 131,472 per case to health facilities; in the treatment of stroke using thrombolytic therapy, NHSU pays UAH 62,565. The cost of treatment without the use of endovascular interventions or thrombolytic therapy is UAH 14,952.
According to NHSU, since the beginning of 2023, Lviv Multidisciplinary Clinical Hospital for Intensive Treatment and Emergency Medical Care received the largest payments for the treatment of strokes some UAH 16.87 million, Bila Tserkva City Hospital No. 2 some UAH 15.47 million, Kyiv City Clinical Hospital No. 1 some UAH 13.09 million, Dnipropetrovsk Regional Clinical Hospital of Mechnikov some UAH 12.88 million.
In total, some 229 hospitals provide medical services for the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of the acute period of stroke within the Program of Medical Guarantees under the package “Medical care for acute cerebral stroke” through contacts with the National Health Service.
“Stroke treatment is completely free for patients, as it is included in the PMG and is a priority service. The cost of treatment is paid by the National Health Service,” the National Service said.
