Rada Commissioner for Human Rights discusses of safety of Energoatom employees, world's nuclear safety with IAEA head

KYIV. May 11 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets discussed the safety of Energoatom employees and the nuclear safety of the world with Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi.

“At the bilateral meeting, we raised the topic of the safety of Energoatom employees, the deportation of workers and their families, and the global issue of the world’s nuclear safety,” Lubinets wrote on the Telegram channel.

Lubinets thanked Grossi for creating and leading the missions at the Zaporizhia NPP.

Despite the deliberate threats of the Russian troops and shelling, the IAEA Director General several times visited the nuclear power plant in the temporarily occupied territory.

Moreover, the IAEA has expanded its presence in Ukraine to help prevent a nuclear accident during the full-scale Russian invasion.

“I think this should be an example for all of the ‘concerned’, not just to support Ukraine in words but to solve such complex problems with real and effective actions,” Lubinets said.

The Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights took the initiative to have the IAEA, together with the Office of the Ombudsman, make a special report on the observance of the rights of IAEA employees and their families, deportation, and safety in general.

Grossi thanked Lubinets for the idea and said he would work on this issue.

“Further discussion of this idea will be during Mr. Grossi’s next visit to Ukraine,” Lubinets said.
