Russia uses foreign leaders on Red Square as 'human shield' – Ukrainian intelligence

KYIV. May 10 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Russia used the presence of foreign leaders on Red Square in Moscow on May 9 as a “human shield”, Spokesman for the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry Andriy Yusov has said.

“The enemy always prepares several scenarios for implementation, and one of the scenarios was, among other things, provocations against its own population,” he said on the air of the national telethon on Wednesday.

According to him, “uncontrolled processes” did take place in Russia, but the scale was expected to be large.

“In addition, Red Square and the Russian establishment were provided with a ‘human shield’ in the form of several dependent presidents who could not say ‘no’. Therefore, they chose a different scenario,” Yusov said.

Earlier, the spokesman for the Main Intelligence Directorate said that Russia could prepare another provocation against the civilian population, as well as against Belarus on May 9.

As reported, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, unrecognized President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev joined Russian President Vladimir Putin at May 9 Victory Day celebrations on Red Square in Moscow.
