KYIV. May 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine’s Special Anti-corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) have completed an investigation on suspicion of the former director general of the trading division of state-owned National Nuclear Generating Company Energoatom of abuse of office during an electricity auction held in September 2020.
The SAPO recalled that the suspect currently holds a senior position in one of the branches of Ukrzaliznytsia.
According to data from open registers, the Energozbut branch of Ukrzaliznytsia is headed by Oleksiy Statnyk, who was the director general of Energoatom-Trading in the above period.
The investigators found that when Energoatom organized an auction for selling electricity. The suspect deliberately created the conditions under which the winner was recognized as a participant with an offer of UAH 1,120 per 1 MWh and with whom a sale and purchase agreement was subsequently signed. At the same time, other participants in the auction offered better prices – up to UAH 1,300 per 1 MWh.
“As a result of the sale of 1.465 million MWh of electricity at a reduced price, the state-owned enterprise lost income of UAH 93.76 million,” the NABU said.
As reported, the ex-director general of Energoatom-Trading was notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abuse of official position) in February 2023.
