CHISINAU. May 15 (Interfax) – Shor Party candidate Yevgenia Gutsul won the election of the head of Moldova’s Gagauz Autonomous Region on Sunday, the Gagauz Central Elections Commission (CEC) said in a preliminary report.
“According to the preliminary information, 27,383 voters, or 52.39%, cast their votes for candidate Yevgenia Gutsul, while Grigory Uzun gained 24,886 votes or 47.61%,” the report said.
Uzun has admitted his defeat in the election.
“Preliminary vote results indicate that Yevgenia Gutsul leads by a small margin. I respect the choice of Gagauz voters,” Uzun said and declined further comment.
A total of 53,458 voters came to polls in the runoff election, which is 54.56% of the electorate.
