Some 337 Ukrainians expected to be evacuated from Gaza Strip – Ukrainian Ambassador to Israel

KYIV. Oct 23 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Over 330 citizens of Ukraine are awaiting evacuation from the Gaza Strip, the total number of Ukrainians there could reach more than 500 people, Ambassador of Ukraine to Israel Yevhen Korniychuk has said.

“There are quite a lot of Ukrainian citizens in Gaza, I cannot give an exact number. Some 337 citizens agreed to be evacuated today. And our representative in Palestine just informed me that another family of six people is preparing documents. But I think that probably more than half a thousand of our citizens are there. Not everyone agreed to leave,” he said on Radio Liberty.

Korniychuk said the situation there is tough, but the embassy can now only create evacuation lists, submit them for approval to the Israeli and Egyptian parties and “faithfully wait for evacuation.”

“In this sense, we are in contact with our European colleagues and have pledged to provide assistance to the Moldovans who have contacted us. We already had such experience in 2021. We then took out more than 20 Moldovan citizens. Now we are talking about 50 Bulgarians. We are coordinating with the Poles. We hope that one of these days, perhaps even tomorrow, the Rafah checkpoint will be open to foreign citizens,” the ambassador said.
