KYIV. May 12 (Interfax-Ukraine) – In January-April, enterprises engaged in operations with ferrous scrap reduced scrap metal procurement by 40.9% compared to the same period last year, to 366,600 tonnes from 620,100 tonnes.
According to the Ukrainian Association of Secondary Metals (UAVtormet), the export of scrap metal for the specified period amounted to 56,400 tonnes compared to 7,100 tonnes in January-April 2022 (an increase of 8 times). At the same time, scrap imports amounted to 60 tonnes, while in the first four months of last year it was 100 tonnes.
The supply of scrap to the country’s steel enterprises in January-April 2023 decreased by 49.8% compared to January-April 2022, to 292,800 tonnes from 583,500 tonnes.
As of May 1, 2023, the level of scrap metal stocks at Ukrainian steel enterprises was estimated at 20,000-25,000 tonnes.
