KYIV. April 18 (Interfax-Ukraine) – By the next autumn-winter period, Ukraine needs to accumulate up to 14.5 billion cubic meters of gas, Energy Minister Herman Haluschenko has said.
“As for gas, we will use the ended heating season as a reference – it is up to 14.5 billion cubic meters. It is what will allow us to feel confident, and it is taking into account gas that we may need, and most likely we will consume it, for the production of electricity,” Haluschenko said at a press conference in Kyiv on Tuesday.
He expressed hope that it would be possible to achieve the required level of domestic gas production but said that the country would also need to import gas.
“There will be certain volumes of imports to be confident. Even if our own production will ensure consumption, a gas reserve will be required. In particular, for the production of electricity, which is not typical, but necessary for energy security. Therefore, we can import up to about 2 billion cubic meters. But war changes the calculations,” the minister said.
According to him, now there are more than 9 billion cubic meters of gas in UGS facilities in Ukraine.
