KYIV. May 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – GTSOU LLC has received applications from more than ten companies that are considering the possibility of building 31 biomethane plants in Ukraine with a productivity of 225 million cubic meters per year, said the company’s general director Dmytro Lippa at parliamentary hearings on the development of alternative energy sources.
“The successful positioning of Ukrainian biomethane in the EU markets requires a detailed and balanced approach, the purpose of which is to develop mechanisms for cross-border trade in biomethane, in particular, to remove barriers for the sale of biomethane transported by the gas transmission system to the EU countries,” he said.
Lippa pointed out that Ukraine needs to unify the regulatory requirements for biomethane with the EU countries in order to eliminate internal restrictions on its export. The matter concerns coordinating the customs clearance of the movement of biomethane across the border, issuing guarantees and certificates of its origin, which will be recognized both in the domestic and foreign markets.
The alternative energy industry also needs to create additional financial instruments for cross-border lending, which can be used to fully or partially cover the costs of the manufacturer for connecting to the grid, the director of GTSOU is sure.
In turn, Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy Vitaliy Holovnia noted the relevance of the production of biomethane and bioethanol for Ukraine due to problems with energy and logistics.
“Import substitution, energy and economic security is the state’s top priority,” said the deputy minister.
He noted that the production of bioethanol is food security, since bioethanol processing products are raw materials for many industries, particularly for animal feed and biogas plants producing electricity or biomethane.
