KYIV. May 11 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Ukrainian army is “morally” ready for an offensive, but is waiting for additional weapons to arrive.
“We are morally ready. In terms of motivation, our military is ready. In terms of brigades, we are ready. In terms of equipment, not everything has arrived yet,” he told the BBC correspondent for Eurovision News.
“Some things, yes, we do expect. This will strengthen our counteroffensive. The most important thing is to protect our people. We expect the appropriate armored vehicles, they arrive in batches. But with that amount you can go forward, and you can, I think, be successful,” he said.
But, Zelenskyy stressed, “we will lose a lot of people. I think that’s unacceptable. So we need to wait. We still need a bit more time.”
The President noted that he would like the offensive to be an “unpleasant surprise” for the enemy.
Speaking about relations with Ukraine’s partners, Zelenskyy noted that “we perceive our partners very warmly, we perceive them as friends, but definitely not as our owners. This is how we build relationships.”
“We will do everything to make the enemy run. And how far he will run, frankly, I think, depends on our spirit. The more powerful we are in the counteroffensive, the farther they will run somewhere towards their place. I think this is the most important thing,” Zelenskyy said.
At the same time, he noted that “I cannot say that immediately after this counteroffensive the sovereignty of Ukraine will be fully restored, because this is a war.”
