WHO recognizes that COVID-19 not emergency situation anymore, issues no statements about end of pandemic yet – Liashko

KYIV. May 8 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The World Health Organization (WHO) has acknowledged that the COVID-19 coronavirus disease is no longer an emergency, but there have been no statements from the organization that the pandemic has ended, Health Minister of Ukraine Viktor Liashko has said.

“WHO has recognized that COVID-19 is no longer a public health emergency. As for the pandemic, there have been no announcements so far. De facto, they said that COVID-19 is not an emergency and they are moving to respond to COVID-19 as they do to other viral diseases,” he told reporters on Monday.

Liashko noted that the COVID-19 Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan is based, in particular, on supporting the ability of the healthcare system to respond to the epidemic – to detect, diagnose in time, so that there is an opportunity to treat, plus vaccination, as well as on the readiness of the medical system to quickly deployment.
