KYIV. May 15 (Interfax-Ukraine) – World Health Organization (WHO) will close its European Office for the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases located in Moscow, office functions will be delegated to an office in Copenhagen (Denmark).
The Ministry of Health of Ukraine told Interfax-Ukraine this decision was made during a special session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe on Monday.
“Today, 28 countries in the WHO European Region are accepting victims of the war in Ukraine. More than 40 countries are temporarily accepting refugees from Ukraine. This is the majority. Due to this strong support, we continue to fight and make important decisions. I would like to thank the partners for the political and financial support for the closing of the WHO office on non-communicable diseases in Moscow and delegating its functions to the office in Copenhagen,” Health Minister Viktor Liashko said.
However, he noted the readiness of Ukraine to significantly increase its involvement in the work of the office in the new status and make every effort so that the experience gained by the country’s healthcare system during the war and during the recovery process was also successfully transformed into global solutions to combat non-communicable diseases.
