Ukraine, Ethiopia agree to create bilateral trade commission – Ukrainian FM

KYIV. May 25 (Interfax-Ukraine) – During a visit to Addis Ababa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba met with Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed, the parties agreed to establish an intergovernmental trade commission.

According to the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, this is the first visit of the Ukrainian minister to Ethiopia since the establishment of diplomatic relations.

“Systemic cooperation in the economic sphere, in particular, the creation of an intergovernmental commission, will help increase trade and revitalize business contacts, and will make it possible to implement mutually beneficial projects in the areas of high-tech, digitalization of public services, pharmaceuticals, etc.,” Kuleba said.

In addition, the Foreign Minister of Ukraine and the Prime Minister of Ethiopia discussed the Black Sea Grain Initiative (BSGI) and the Grain From Ukraine humanitarian program of Ukraine’s President, which play an important role in ensuring food security in Africa.

“It is crucial that the BSGI continue to function. Ukraine strives to remain a reliable guarantor of food security in the world,” the minister said.

He added that thanks to the partial unblocking of Ukrainian grain exports in 2022, global wheat prices fell by 5%.

Kuleba also spoke in detail to the head of the Ethiopian government about President Zelenskyy’s Peace Formula and invited Ethiopia to join its implementation.

“The restoration of a just and lasting peace in Ukraine will have a direct positive impact on strengthening security in Africa,” he said.
