Ukraine will receive $1.5 bln of loans from World Bank under guarantees of Japanese govt – Shmyhal

KYIV. July 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine will receive a $1.5 billion loan from the World Bank (WB) under the guarantees of the government of Japan, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said.

“Only the relevant agreement was signed by the World Bank and the Ministry of Finance during our meeting with World Bank Vice President Antonella Bassani,” Shmyhal said on Telegram on Thursday.

According to him, the funds are provided for strengthening social protection, helping people during the war and restoring the economy.

The head of the Ukrainian government said that in total, the World Bank group together with its partners have mobilized $34 billion to help Ukraine, of which more than $22 billion has already been received by the budget.

“We are especially grateful for the largest PEACE in Ukraine investment project in the history of the Bank, which helps finance social payments and pensions. We appreciate our close cooperation and look forward to further joint projects for the restoration and development of Ukraine,” Shmyhal wrote.
