KYIV. Sept 13 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved the procedure for the import into the country, propagation and export of seeds and planting material that are not in the Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine, but included in the List of Plant Varieties of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
Corresponding resolution No. 964, prepared by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, was published on the official website of the government.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the resolution was adopted to implement Ukraine’s international obligations to comply with OECD seed schemes.
The resolution approved the conditions and procedures for the import of seeds and planting material of a variety, in particular, it presented an algorithm for confirming information about the variety contained in the OECD List of Plant Varieties of those agricultural plants to which Ukraine has joined the varietal certification schemes.
The document describes the rules for obtaining consent from the competent authority of the country for the registration of a variety and for the propagation of seeds.
In addition, the procedure for importing into Ukraine seeds and planting material of varieties that are not included in the State Register of Plant Varieties recommended for distribution, but included in the OECD List of Plant Varieties, is described in relation to those agricultural plants to which Ukraine has joined the varietal certification schemes, as well as the principle of their propagation and exports outside the state.
