KYIV. Sept 15 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal has said that assessment of the streamlining of the Ukrainian legislation with the European Union’s standards (self-screening) showed that around 5,000 normative and legal acts will need to be amended.
“We have gone through the main path of self-screening, analyzed 27,000 normative and legal acts. It has been determined that around 5,000 regulatory legal acts will need to be changed in order to bring our legislation [into compliance] with the directives of the European Union,” he said at a press conference on Friday.
The prime minister expressed hope that after Ukraine’s implementation of the seven recommendations of the European Commission is announced in October, negotiations on the country’s accession to the EU will begin.
“During the negotiations, we will determine what these changes will be and how we will implement them. This is actually the penultimate step towards joining the European Union,” he said.
