Pistorius announces new military aid package to Ukraine

KYIV. Sept 19 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Germany announced a new package of military assistance for Ukraine worth a total of EUR 400 million: it will include ammunition, mine clearance systems, as well as electric and heat generators.

This was stated by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius in an interview with Bild before the meeting of the Contact Group on the Defense of Ukraine in the Ramstein format.

“We are supplying additional ammunition: explosive, mortar, anti-mortar. Ammunition is what Ukraine needs the most in defending against this violent aggression,” he said.

The minister said Germany will also help Ukraine with protected equipment and mine clearance systems. “We have also prepared for the approaching winter: we will send winter gear, as well as power and heat generators; the total cost of the package will amount to EUR 400 million,” Pistorius said.

Regarding the delivery of the Taurus cruise missile, the minister said: “It is the responsibility of the entire federal government to weigh every weapon delivery very carefully. A number of political, legal, military and technical aspects need to be clarified. It is not simple. It has not yet been decided whether the federal government will send Taurus cruise missiles.”
