KYIV. Sept 19 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Enterprises dealing with ferrous scrap metals in January-August of this year reduced supplies of scrap to metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine by 15.8% compared to the same period last year, to 601,100 tonnes from 713,900 tonnes, and by 72.9% compared to 8 months of 2021 (2.220 million tonnes).
According to the recent information of the Ukrainian Association of Secondary Metals (UAVtormet) on Monday, the procurement of scrap metal for 8 months of 2023 decreased by 3.5% compared to the same period last year, to 754,500 tonnes.
At the same time, scrap metal exports for the specified period amounted to 117,500 tonnes compared to 30,400 tonnes in January-August 2022 (an increase of 3.9 times). At the same time, imports of scrap amounted to 600 tonnes, while in 8 months of 2022 it amounted to 1,600 tonnes.
As of September 1, 2023, the level of scrap metal reserves at metallurgical enterprises in Ukraine was estimated at 17,000-20,000 tonnes.
