First version of bill on housing policy expected by mid-Dec – Shuliak

KYIV. Oct 24 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The first version of the bill on housing policy may be ready by mid-December 2023, head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on the Organization of State Power, Local Self-Government, Regional Development and Urban Planning Olena Shuliak (the Servant of the People party) says.

“We know and see that reform of housing policy in our country is long overdue. Together with fellow parliamentarians, the relevant ministry and experts, we are already working on a corresponding legislative initiative. We expect the first edition of the document in mid-December 2023, after which we will organize public consultations to finalize the bill before voting at the first reading,” the MP wrote on Facebook.

According to her, the bill should determine the legal, economic, social and organizational principles of the country’s state policy regarding the realization of people’s right to housing, as well as the effective use of the housing stock.

The MP indicated that the share of social housing in Ukraine’s housing stock is 1-1.5%, while in the UK this figure is 17%, and in France – 14%.
