BRUSSELS. Oct 24 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The European Commission announced on Tuesday that it paid EUR 1.5 billion under the Macro-financial Assistance +package for Ukraine worth up to EUR 18 billion.
“The EU’s support to Ukraine is unshakable. We paid another EUR 1.5 billion in financial assistance to Ukraine. With the new payment our overall support to Ukraine amounts to almost €83 billion. And in addition the European Commission proposed up to EUR 50 billion for the following years, until 2027,” President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said in the press release.
According to the press release, with the latest disbursement of EUR 1.5 billion, Ukraine has so far received EUR 15 billion this year, which will go toward covering “its immediate funding needs, with stable, predictable and sizeable financial support in 2023.”
This support, Brussels explains, will help Ukraine to continue paying wages and pensions, and keep essential public services running, such as hospitals, schools, and housing for relocated people. It will also allow Ukraine to ensure macroeconomic stability and restore critical infrastructure, such as energy infrastructure, water systems, transport networks, roads and bridges.
The latest payment, according to the European Commission, “comes after the Commission found on 18 October that Ukraine continued to make satisfactory progress towards implementing the agreed policy conditions and complied with reporting requirements, which aim to ensure the transparent and efficient use of the funds.”
