Autumn sowing season 2023 exceeds sowing area of 2022 by 8%

KYIV. Oct 25 (Interfax-Ukraine) – As of October 24, about 4.985 million hectares of winter crops were sown in Ukraine, which is 506,000 hectares more than a week earlier, and 386,000 hectares, or 8% higher than the crops on the same date last year, reported the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.

According to its data, farmers from all regions of Ukraine have completed the sowing of winter rapeseed, for which 1.136 million hectares were allocated, and Volyn, Zakarpattia, Zaporizhia and Poltava regions have completed sowing of grain crops.

In other regions, sowing of wheat, millet and rye continues. In total, farmers have already sowed 3.849 million hectares of winter grains, of which 3.456 million hectares are occupied by wheat, barley – 322,000 hectares, rye – 71,000 ha.

A year earlier, on October 25, the main winter grain crops were sown in Ukraine on an area of 3.6 million hectares (76% of the forecast of 4.5 million hectares), of which wheat – 3.1 million hectares (79% of the planned area), barley – 390,000 hectares (58%), rye – 74,000 hectares (86%). In addition, 999,000 hectares (104% of the plan) were sown with winter rapeseed.

As reported with reference to a survey conducted by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the vast majority of farmers do not plan to significantly change the acreage under winter crops in this marketing year compared to last season.
