Kondratiuk calls on Latin American politicians for anti-Russian sanctions

KYIV. Oct 27 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Olena Kondratiuk called on politicians from Latin American countries to introduce anti-Russian sanctions in their countries.

“We… appeal to the states of Latin America with a request to interrupt any business with Russian partners, not to allow Russian companies to continue business activities in the countries of the region, to impose economic sanctions against Russia,” Kondratiuk said at the Free America forum.

According to the press service of the Verkhovna Rada, Kondratiuk drew attention to the fact that the foreign policy of most countries in the Latin American region is built on the principle of “non-interference in conflicts outside the country.”

“But Russia’s war is a violation of the basic norms and principles of international law. Carrying out genocide. Therefore, it is very difficult for us, Ukrainians, to accept and understand the principle of ‘neutrality’ of any country when it comes to the unilateral decision of a great state: to capture and destroy its neighbor,” Kondratiuk said.

She called on Latin American countries to express a clear position on the terrorist actions of the Russian leadership and adopt appropriate resolutions in parliaments and governments, as well as at the Free America forum.

Kondratiuk said today Ukraine needs the help of nations that themselves have gone through the terrible experience of external interventions.

The Verkhovna Rada Deputy Chairman also raised the topic of the ineffectiveness of the UN Security Council and called for its radical reform.

“Russia, which has committed aggression, neglecting the basic principle of the UN, cannot be a permanent member of the Security Council. The composition of permanent members must be expanded and a representative of Latin America must finally receive the right to represent the region in the main security body of the world,” the deputy chairman of the Ukrainian parliament said.

The Free America Forum takes place on October 25-27 in Mexico City (Mexico) at the initiative of the Christian Democratic Organization of America, which unites 34 political parties from 21 Latin American countries. They represent about 30% of registered voters in their countries and 10% of the population of this region of the Global South, home to more than 665 million people.

As reported, Kondratiuk is on an official visit to Mexico.
