Ukraine late with supplies of contracted rapeseed owing to logistics difficulties – analysts

KYIV. Oct 31 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine had exported 424,000 tonnes of rapeseed as of October 30, but is lagging in the supply of contracted volumes owing to logistics problems, Ukrainian media reported, citing a report from the analytical center of the Start cooperative, created within the Ukrainian Agrarian Council (UAC).

In November, 60,000 tonnes of Ukrainian rapeseed oil were sold to China, which contributed to increased domestic demand from processors.

“Ukraine does not have time to supply the contracted volumes of rapeseed owing to logistics. Some farmers did not receive wagons on time. Owing to the supply of corn to Romania, queues and delays in wagons arose. In addition, the work of the Odesa ports has intensified – and there are not enough wagons. Liquidity in the market is low, conditional prices on the basis of CPT seaports are UAH 14,000-14,500 per tonne,” the analysts said.

It should be noted that rapeseed is mainly exported by roadway and railway to the Czech Republic and the Baltic countries, and not by sea,” according to the statement.

Meanwhile, about 500,000 tonnes of rapeseed have been accumulated in Ukraine, but “sellers are in no hurry to sell it and, in anticipation of higher prices, are postponing sales until December,” the UAC said.
