KYIV. Nov 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – In October 2023, Ukraine increased imports of cheese by 70% and butter by 14% in monetary terms, the press service of the Union of Dairy Enterprises of Ukraine reported.
According to the report, in October of this year, 27,000 tonnes of cheese were imported against 28,600 tonnes in the same period last year, but more money was spent on importing it – $160 million versus $150 million.
“The import of butter has significantly increased by 62% by weight, and the share of costs for this has increased 10 times compared to last year,” the analysts stated.
They noted that there has been a moderate increase in the dynamics of cheese imports in the last three months, which indicates increased competition in the domestic cheese market. The 14-fold increase in butter imports over the same three months led to a negative balance in international trade.
