KYIV. Nov 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) – At a meeting on Thursday, the board of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine recognized the possibility of extending the operation of power unit No. 1 of Pivdennoukrainsk NPP (PNPP-1) for another 10 years, the inspectorate’s website reported on Thursday.
“Recognize as justified the possibility of safe operation of power unit No. 1 of Pivdennoukrainsk NPP at the power levels specified in the design until December 2, 2033,” the board’s decision says.
Before the decision was made, a report was heard on the results of the state examination of nuclear and radiation safety.
As the board stated, the results of the state examination of nuclear and radiation safety of power unit No. 1 of Pivdennoukrainsk NPP and the inspection survey confirm the possibility of further safe long-term operation of the facility.
At the same time, PNPP-1 meets the requirements for nuclear and radiation safety in terms of target safety criteria.
“The board of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate decided to approve the conclusion of the state examination of nuclear and radiation safety of power unit No. 1 of Pivdennoukrainsk NPP,” according to the authority website.
