Ukrainian Red Cross to hold conference on environmental consequences of war

KYIV. Nov 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS) will hold a conference on the environmental consequences of war in the light of international humanitarian law.

“On Monday, November 6, the Ukrainian Red Cross will organize a conference ‘Environmental protection through the prism of international humanitarian law,’ which will be held in Lviv,” the URCS reported on Facebook on Friday.

The conference will raise issues of the consequences of hostilities on the environment and the potential to provoke serious environmental problems.

The conference will be attended by representatives of the Ukrainian authorities, scientific community, non-governmental organizations and civil society groups.

The academic study “International Legal protection of the Natural environment during an international armed conflict: the Ukrainian dimension”, developed with the support of the Ukrainian Red Cross, will be presented at the conference.

The work of the department of international humanitarian law in the URCS is supported by the National Red Cross Societies of Great Britain, Denmark, Sweden.
