KYIV. Nov 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Imports of fresh, chilled and frozen pork in October 2023 fell by 6.8% compared to September and reached 2,000 tonnes, or $5.5 million in monetary equivalent, the press service of the Association of Pig Breeders of Ukraine reported.
“The weakening of the flow of foreign pork was observed along with similar dynamics in domestic prices: since the beginning of the month, the average market price has lost almost 18%, and the average October figure is almost 12% compared to September,” the association said on its website on Friday.
According to the association, the key countries supplying pork to Ukraine remain Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium and Canada. The increase in the presence of slightly more expensive Canadian pork on the market led to an increase in the average customs cost of imported raw materials to $2.71 from $2.55 last month.
“The total import of pork in January-October totaled 11,960 tonnes, which is 73.7% lower than last year’s figure for the same period. If import activity remains at the level of recent months, then the annual import volumes will amount to 14,000-16,000 tonnes, then there are 66.7% less than in 2022,” the association predicted.
