KYIV. Nov 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – UNDP and the Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine (the Ministry of Reconstruction) have announced the winning communities of an open competition for needs assessment and local recovery planning.
According to the press service of the ministry, out of more than 100 participants, Bila Tserkva, Bohodukhiv, Valky, Vyzhnytsia, Kuialnyk, Novovolynsk, Akhtyrka, Pryluky, Khmeliv and Chernechchyna territorial communities were selected for the pilot project.
“It is communities that play a leadership role in recovery processes. One of our main tasks is to help them, without waiting for victory, to succeed and become stronger. They will receive professional support in developing recovery plans, conducting corruption risk assessments, strengthening the ability of local authorities to respond to crises, etc.,” Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine, Minister of Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov is quoted in the release.
He thanked the international partners who made these pilot projects possible – UNDP in Ukraine and the Japanese government.
Communities located no closer than 30 km from the active combat zone were invited to participate in the competition. The process of selecting communities to participate in the project took place in accordance with a methodology containing a list of clear criteria for assessing their condition. In particular, the degree of negative impact of the war on the demographic and economic situation (the level of population outflow and the number of IDPs) and the scale of destruction of critical infrastructure were assessed.
The project is being implemented with the support of the international audit company KPMG Ukraine, UNDP Ukraine and funding from the Japanese government.
