SPAR retail turnover in Ukraine increases by 30%

KYIV. Nov 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – SPAR’s retail turnover in Ukraine in 2022 increased by 30% to EUR76.3 million at the average annual exchange rate, according to the annual report of the international retail operator SPAR International.

“Despite the incredibly challenging environment in which retailers have had to operate in 2022, SPAR Ukraine has reported an astonishing 30% increase in retail turnover compared to the previous year. Total SPAR sales in Ukraine reached EUR76.3 million at an average annual exchange rate. Sales were generated by 81 SPAR stores operating at the end of the year, with a total selling space of 16,887 sq m,” says the SPAR Annual Review 2022, which summarizes the company’s performance in all regions of presence.

The Dutch SPAR franchise network is one of the world’s largest supermarket and hypermarket chains. It offers four retail formats: SPAR Express (convenience stores with a selling area of up to 200 sq m), SPAR (supermarkets of 200-800 sq m), EUROSPAR (supermarkets of 800-3,000 sq m), INTERSPAR (hypermarkets of over 3,000 sq m).

According to the annual report, at the end of 2022 SPAR International had 13,996 stores in 48 countries, with overall turnover growing by 5.6% to EUR43.5 billion.

The European segment is represented by 12,387 stores (376 more than in 2021), which generated a turnover of EUR35.48 billion (more by 7.6%).

In Ukraine, SPAR has been developing since 2017 as one of the business areas of the VolWest investment group.
