Nov 13 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Czech railway operator RegioJet is considering the possibility of launching a Kyiv-Berlin train, but the main condition remains the need to reconstruct the terminal at the Mostyska II station, the owner of the railway company Radim Jančura said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
According to him, RegioJet has contacted the authorities in Poland and is awaiting official permission to operate the flight to Berlin.
“The Polish side said that it will allow us this connection in the near future. But to start this project, we must invest in an interchange terminal at the Mostyska II station so that Ukrzaliznytsia has the opportunity to provide an increase in the number of seats from Przemysl to Lviv, ideally – to Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernivtsi. Without increasing this capacity, we will not launch communication with Hannover and Berlin,” Jančura said.
He said that the capacity between Przemysl and Lviv is currently limited to only five to six trains per day.
“This is very little. If our trains allowed some passengers to get off at Przemysl and others at Mostyska II station, we would double the capacity. Trains could arrive from Prague and Berlin at the same time or vice versa,” Jančura said.
In addition, RegioJet does not rule out launching a train from Ukraine to Budapest and Vienna.
“This is one of the possible future projects. Cooperation with Ukrzaliznytsia is beneficial for everyone, but, unfortunately, we are used to working at a faster pace. I understand that ensuring uninterrupted train movement, especially taking into account the need to repair the infrastructure attacked by the Russian Federation, requires Ukrzaliznytsia has a lot of energy and strength. A low bow for that,” the owner of RegioJet said.
