Ukraine exports 76,000 tonnes of flour to EU in 2022 – study

KYIV. Nov 14 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine in 2022 became the second largest supplier of flour to the European Union, supplying 76,000 tonnes, according to a flour market study prepared by the Reform Support Team of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine (RST Mineconomy) together with the Entrepreneurship and Export Promotion Office.

According to the report, at the same time, flour exports were 4.8 times less than in 2019, when the country supplied 365,000 tonnes to the EU.

Due to the naval blockade, Ukrainian manufacturers in 2022 were forced to change their sales geography and reorient themselves from the markets of the Middle East and Africa to the markets of neighboring European countries. As a result, Poland, Romania, Croatia, Hungary, Slovakia and Moldova became the main importing countries of Ukrainian flour. The latter became the main buyer of Ukrainian flour with a volume of 21,000 tonnes, the study notes.

“Today Ukraine is among the leaders in the production and export of grains, and this is a significant basis for moving towards primacy both in the primary processing and export of flour, and subsequently in deepening processing and expanding the export of bakery products,” summarized the senior project manager of the Reform Support Team, Serhiy Maidanevych.
