Insurers of Ukraine increase net premiums by 28.6%, gross by 27.6% in Jan-Sept

KYIV. Nov 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Insurance companies of Ukraine in January-September 2023 collected net premiums in the amount of UAH 33.438 billion, which is 28.6% more than in the same period in 2022 (UAH 25.995 billion).

According to the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), the volume of gross insurance premiums collected by insurers for the specified period reached UAH 34.142 billion (27.6% more). Including premiums received from individuals totaled UAH 20.952 billion (25.8%) more, from reinsurers – UAH 736.9 million (16.3% less).

In January-September, insurers paid UAH 11.923 billion in net insurance payments (38.1% more). The level of net payments grew from 33.2% to 35.7%.

According to the NBU, gross insurance payments for the reporting period rose by 38.7%, to UAH 12.027 billion. The level of gross payments increased from 32.8% to 35.2%. At the same time, payments to individuals totaled UAH 6.458 billion, to reinsurers – UAH 103.4 million.

The volume of insurance premiums owned by reinsurers reached UAH 3.684 billion (15.8% more), including UAH 2.980 billion (23.1% more) to nonresident reinsurers.

The volume of formed insurance reserves totaled UAH 44.889 billion, which is 19.6% more than the figure for the same period last year (UAH 37.540 billion).

At the same time, with an increase in the total assets of insurers by 7.9% (to UAH 73.375 billion), the volume of assets determined by law to represent insurance reserves grew by 2.5%, to UAH 55.842 billion.

The regulator also reported that 73.353 million insurance contracts were concluded in the reporting period, which is 25% more than in the same period last year.

According to the NBU, the total number of insurance companies in Ukraine as of September 30, 2023 was 111 (nine months of 2022 there were 139, 2021 – 169), of which life insurance companies – 12 (13).
