Autumn sowing season in 2023 in area exceeds sowing season one year earlier by 7.6%

KYIV. Nov 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – As of November 21, almost 5.8 million hectares were sown in Ukraine, which is 90,700 hectares more than a week earlier, and 0.41 million hectares (7.6% more) more than the area sown on the same date is 2022, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food reported.

According to the ministry’s updated report on its Telegram channel on Tuesday, the sowing of winter crops in 10 regions has been completed, while in others it is coming to an end.

In other regions, sowing of wheat, millet and rye continues.

In total, more than 4.605 million hectares were sown with winter grains (a week earlier – 4.502 million hectares), of which wheat – 4.022 million hectares (3.968 million hectares), barley – 506,000 hectares (469,000 hectares), rye – 77,000 hectares (77,000 hectares), winter rape – 1.159 million hectares (1.151 million hectares).

A year earlier, by November 22, in Ukraine the main winter grain crops were sown on an area of 4.4 million hectares (94% of the forecast of 4.5 million hectares), of which wheat – 3.8 million hectares (94% of the planned area), barley – 613,000 hectares (91%), rye – 79,200 hectares (93%). In addition, 999,000 hectares (104% of the plan) were sown with winter rapeseed.

As reported with reference to a survey conducted by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the vast majority of farmers do not plan to significantly change the area under winter crops in 2024 compared to the previous season.
