KYIV. Nov 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Exports of sunflower meal from Ukraine in October 2023 increased by 28% compared to September, to 359,000 tonnes, but this figure is 2% less than the same period in 2022, the APK-Inform information and analytical agency reported.
“The increase in the reporting month was mainly due to China, where the highest volume of this product in the last seven months was exported – 144,000 tonnes (an increase of 2.4 times compared to September), which was facilitated by an increase in shipments of products from the ports of Odesa,” the analysts said.
At the same time, according to experts, in the first two months of the 2023-2024 marketing year, exports of Ukrainian sunflower meal to China fell by 47% compared to the supply rate for the same period of the last marketing year.
Analysts also pointed to increased competition in the Chinese market between Ukrainian and Russian meal.
“China’s purchase of Russian sunflower meal remains unstable and does not have a clear upward trend. However, last month, China significantly expanded the list of Russian suppliers of agricultural products and meal, which may affect future supplies,” APK-Inform said.
