KYIV. Nov 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Verkhovna Rada intends to grant the English language the status of one of the languages for international communication in Ukraine.
A total of 278 MPS backed at the first reading bill No. 9432 on the use of the English language in Ukraine at a plenary session of the Verkhovna Rada on Wednesday, member of the European Solidarity faction Oleksiy Honcharenko said on his Telegram channel.
The bill proposes to officially consolidate the status of English as one of the languages of international communication in Ukraine, and also defines categories of positions for which candidates are required to speak English.
The bill stipulates that the state ensures compulsory study of the English language and promotes the study of other languages of international communication in educational institutions, regardless of their form of ownership.
According to the bill, preschool education institutions provide compulsory English language learning for children of senior preschool age. At the same time, preschool education institutions ensure the compulsory use of English in the educational process for children of early, primary preschool and secondary preschool age.
According to the bill, a higher education institution has the right to decide on teaching one, several or most disciplines, completing individual assignments and tests in English, which is clearly stated in the description of the educational program at the time of admission to the university.
According to the bill, English can also be used in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Guard as a language of international communication.
