Tokayev and Aliyev discuss increasing shipments of Kazakhstani oil via territory of Azerbaijan

ASTANA. Nov 24 (Interfax) – President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev held talks in Baku, the press service of the President of Kazakhstan said in a statement.

“During the meeting, the heads of state discussed the possibility of intensifying their joint work in such important areas as the construction of a fiber-optic communication line along the bottom of the Caspian Sea, increasing shipments of Kazakh oil via Azerbaijani territory, and the development of the Trans-Caspian international transport route, as well as promising projects in in the field of energy and renewable energy sources,” the statement said.

Earlier, Astana, in order to diversify its oil export routes, began shipping via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline. The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan and KazMunayGas signed an agreement to transport 1.5 million tonnes of Kazakh oil per year along this primary route. Exports began in April 2023.
