Nov 24 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Verkhovna Rada must, by mid-December, adopt bills for the final implementation of the recommendations of the European Commission to begin negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union, Deputy Chair of the Servant of the People parliamentary faction Yevhenia Kravchuk said.
“We will have one more meeting [of parliament] before December 14. And it is very important to adopt these [anti-corruption] bills at the final reading… We are on time, we have no other option,” Kravchuk said during the national telethon on Friday.
She said that the Verkhovna Rada should also do everything to ensure that there are no formal reasons to say that Ukraine has not fully implemented the clause on the protection of national minorities.
“We expect that the government will register changes to the law on national minorities, which will take into account additional comments of the Venice Commission that relate to the language of education,” Kravchuk said.
According to her, it concerns “an even greater opportunity to study in the languages of the European Union” – Hungarian, Romanian, Bulgarian. At the same time, the MP said that “there will definitely not be any talk about any preferences for the Russian language.”
Kravchuk also said that the Cabinet of Ministers is preparing a bill on lobbying.
“This is a completely new law and the government is preparing it. And we are waiting for registration from the government,” Kravchuk said.
According to the MP, the Verkhovna Rada has until the spring of next year to adopt this bill.
“I think that we will vote on the law on lobbying until March. Actually, after the decision (of the EU Council on the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union), I hope in mid-December, the European Commission will have time to prepare a negotiating framework, somewhere around March, and during this time, as they say, all the ‘tails’ need to be tightened,” Kravchuk said.
